Official Business: We took nominations for officers and discussed their roles. Presentation: SSL Certificates. Dr. Bob talked about certificates, chains of trust, and the Let’s Encrypt service.
Presentation: We held an open discussion about MDLUG, our current meeting place, proposed new meeting locations and funding for non-free locations. Among other topics, we talked about Certificate Authorities and how certificates are used by servers and clients.
Presentation: The MDLUG meeting was held at the Conclave Science Fiction Convention. There were presentations and demos about Raspberry PIs, Arduinos, Copters and other cool devices.
Presentation: Tony Bemus explained what an IT security professional has to look at and how to keep networks safe. He demonstrated some hacks with Kali Linux and what countermeasures to prevent the attack.
There was no meeting today.
Presentation: Dr. Robert Meier installed an *HTTPS* static website on a bare linux box.
Presentation: Carl created a simple website to store and retrieve data from a database. This “LAMP” website demo included a brief mention of Linux, a quick session on Apache, an introduction to MySQL, and various web pages using PHP.
Presentation: We had several topics for discussion, including the use of projectors and planning for future topics for presentations.
