Carl,

I must call it a night now, but I can report the following findings.
It appears the problem is with reattaching to the graphical display.
Has anyone else been unable to switch from and back to the graphical
screen (tty7)?
Does anyone know of related problems (and solutions)?

---- Without involving suspend or resume, ----
attempts to switch to the graphical screen (tty7) FAILS.

ctl-alt-F1 switches to a text screen.
Likewise ctl-alt-{F2,F3,F4,F5,F6} switches to a text screen.
ctl-alt-F10 switches to the console.
ctl-alt-{F8,F9,F11,F12} are apparently feckless.
--> ctl-alt-F7 renders the keyboard feckless <--
until the ctl and alt keys are released and
    ctl-alt-F1 is clicked,
at which point tty1 text screen appears.
Once the graphics screen is left (for a text screen),
the graphical screen remains apparently unavailable
until init 5 is re-executed from a text screen.
---- Without involving suspend or resume, ----

---- With suspend or resume, ----
>From run level 3 (non-graphical display reached by executing 'init 3'),
(cd /usr/sbin/; ./s2ram -f /var/lib/s2disk.conf suspends to ram
with apparently successful resume to follow.
(i.e. switch to a text screen with ctl-alt-F1, execute 'init 3',
 execute 'cd /usr/sbin', execute './s2ram -f /var/lib/s2disk.conf',
wait until white light starts blinking, wait 60s, click ctl key,
wait ~30s for tty1 text screen to appear, and verify that
state (remote logins, bash history, network connections, ...)
 pass smoke tests.
---- With suspend or resume, ----

Still investigating,
--
Bob
