You might try the graphics-file viewer XnView under either Linux or
Windows. The Linux version is an RPM, but I have used "alien" to
install it under Ubuntu. I believe it has batch-processing options,
as well.
It's also possible that while the file-table entries are there, the
files themselves are not. You might look at a disk-discovery program
to see what is actually IN the sectors that the file-table entries
point at.
