[mdlug] Router is giving up on routing let alone working

If anyone is thinking of buying a Linksys and want advanced routing capabilities, really do consider buying the WRT54GL v1.1. It has the ram necessary for the standard dd-wrt build. Other models do not, yet the costs are comparable.

After 6 years, my Linksys WRT54G v2 router having the exact same
failure mode - wireless dropping. Wired connections remained fine.
Modifications included a dd-wrt, high-gain antennas, and moderately
boosted the radio power.

I replaced it with WRT54GL v1.2 from New Egg recently for $60
delivered, and promptly loaded dd-wrt. Its working flawlessly. (If
anyone wants notes to speed an install, let me know)

I have had an older Linksys B router get flaky on me I replaced it with
a Linksys WRT54G. So far it has been operational for
about 4 years. I almost bricked the 54G with a semi failed attempt to put
one of the after market Linux systems in it. I put the original system
Linksys system back in and have left it alone since.
With the B model the wireless portion is what got flaky but
the wired switch portion stayed working quite well.
