So... with this annoying thread going on, I decided to try and revisit 
an old pet peeve of mine, Thunderbird's inability to ignore/watch a 
thread.  Seems someone once created an add on for this purpose, but it's 
no longer supported.  Does anyone have or know of an extension that will 
do this?  Or can you recommend an open source client that integrates 
well with IMAP that will do this as well?

Once upon a time, we'll call it the 90's, I used an email/newsgroup 
client called Forte Agent, and it's ability to ignore threads on the 
newsgroups was just awesome sauce all the way.  It was as simple as 
typing "I" for any message on the thread, and from then on every message 
in the thread would be automatically marked read and skipped.  Why many 
good (aka Thunderbird) modern clients don't have this feature is beyond me.
