 I know that the Dell c510 we have does not have a stellar graphics card,
but I'd like to make two points:

 1. Even with Vista Home Basic (no Aero, no spiffy UI tricks) it was still
dog slow, even though we'd bumped it from the minimum 512MB to 1GB of RAM.
I disabled a large amount of cruft and it was still painful to use. The UI
was definitely *not* the only bloated part of Vista. The same machine runs
quite well on XP.

 2. Ubuntu 7.10 has no trouble running the Compiz gui stuff on the same
machine, quite snappily. I can honestly say that running Ubuntu off of a
CD was faster than running Vista off the hard drive.
