I would just stick with the USB adapter.
1: You probably have more USB connectors than PCMCIA slots.

2: You can plug a USB hub into a USB connector, giving you
    even more USB connectors.

3: If one of your PCMCIA slots gets damaged, you're down
to only one.

So basically, use the PCMCIA slots ONLY when you have
a job that can't be solved with a USB device.
