Because I was too late in registering to apply for a grant I had, I
ended up taking another year of school to make use of it.  I was
mostly working on an electronics degree but the third year I took
astronomy (which covered a lot about the electromagnetic spectrum),
residential electrical wiring, industrial motor control, and
programmable controllers.  The latter was fun to use with holiday
lights for light shows at the college dances.  I also worked part-time
in the data processing department setting up PCs and terminals.
