[mdlug] Anyone using an HDTV as a monitor?

Spent a few minutes last night plugging in the laptop to our HDTV (it has a VGA
input). It's a Syntax LT32HV, 1366x768 pixels. Using the "nvidia-settings" program,
I was able to get up to 1280x768, which looked quite nice. Apparently, however, it's
possible to get 'pixel-exact' representation, so that nothing's stretched. Anyone
have any experience with that?

 From what I've been able to gather, if I edit the xorg.conf file and add an appropriate
mode (without timings), it has a chance of working. I've also found some mode timings that
might work. Apparently the fact that 1366 is not an exact multiple of 8 can be a problem;
some people do 1360 or 1368.

 It's only a toy, unfortunately. The onboard video card only has 8MB of VRAM, so
I can't play 3D games at 1280x720 or anything like that. It's got a 1.6MHz P4-M,
no slouch but there's no chance it could play HD movies. But it might be fun to
surf the web or whatever with it...

 Sincerely,

 Ray Ingles                                              (313) 227-2317
