Thanks Richard! It sounds like a splendid idea. Are you offering to do
so? Personally I don't have the time to donate to such right now.

A surprising number of groups still use mail lists, such as this GNU
Mailman one that we use, mostly groups that have been around for
decades, like my union. As old saying goes, "if it ain't broke don't
fix it" usually wins out over adapting new technology. There certainly
are limitations to email, mostly related to the deluge of messages
from across the known universe. I can only speak for myself, but I've
only regularly started reading these messages again when I switched
from reading them in my email inbox to reading them in my Friendicia
feed. But that's also part of the beauty of email, and other open
protocols that have had time to mature, is you configure a bajillion
ways to access it as you prefer, rather than be limited to one walled
garden like Discord.

I certainly would have no objections to MDLUG hosting a matrix server
if that's what we'd like to do. I'm not familiar enough off hand to
know how accessible old messages are for such. The current achieve of
this mail list is accessible through 2006.

>zomg, it's not commmieware?!?!?

Hey Scott, to paraphrase rms: Free Software does not fit into any one
political box. It contains socialist ideas, capitalist ideas, and
anarchist ideas.

I'd say that's one reason why Free Software is for everyone.
