Why are you so opposed to the idea of a fork?  It is really
a very sensible solution.

I suppose that you are like the Linux maintainers.  They were
opposed to a fork because it would have been too much work
for them to develop two, or more, separate source trees.
They are lazy.  They took the easy way by selling out the
freedom of the Linux community.

Also, there is the side benefit for them of appearing to be
modern and progressive.  But only fops are dominated
by fashion.

Should we now proceed by concluding that the Linux distribution
maintainers are lazy fops?  It is certainly tempting.

(I exempt Gentoo from the above.  What Gentoo has managed to
accomplish in the way of maintaining extensive choice is nothing
short of remarkable.  No appropriate award exists but one should
be invented to commemorate their contribution.)
