[mdlug] Serial port use to connect to a network switch - Ubuntu 14.04

Try ckermit or gkermit.  Make sure the data rate, stop bits, parity, and
flow control (XON/XOFF or RTS/CTS) are correct.

User needs to be a member of dialout group.
