Well, the bylaws don't actually forbid us from allowing advertising to be
posted on the website. (Do we have a separate policy for the mailing
lists?) In fact, the terms "advocate" and "educate" in our objective could
be construed as including publicity about product or services of interest
to our members. We've also had presenters at meetings who discussed the
advantages of specific commercial solutions, and handed out paraphernalia
to attendees embossed with their sponsors' logos.

However, where there is no obvious nexus between the proposed advertising
and the interests of MDLUG members, I don't think the group would be in
favor of it. Perhaps the group could adopt a formal policy to that effect
and post it on the site and list, so that the officers can respond off-list
(in the negative) to future inquiries big this sort.

Or, we could adopt the policy that such inquiries without context are spam,
and officers are authorized to summarily report them as such off-list.
