Yes,  I  stream  mpeg2/4 1080p, with HD audio all the time with the 
raspmbc version of XMBC with no problems.
I have 3 of them hooked up to various 1080p TVs and surround sound 
equipment working just fine.
I even have one  using the TV's remote using HDMI CEC to control the 
rasmpbc.
