[mdlug] strange network issue

Networking question to the group.

I have a Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS running on a dell 530. Having a strange
route to host not found issue when I do a cold restart of the system,
that being I turn it off for a day or so then start it.   I can ping
it's local hard coded IP fine but no other machines. It on my local
network and has been working up to now. If I reboot it a few times or do
a ifdown eth0, ifup eth0 a few time it will start working. I am on a
netgear switch and also have a few other machines on it as well and that
have no issues. I am not sure if its from an Ubuntu update, I keep the
machine running for a week or so at a time so I have done a few updates.
Looking at dmsg I don't see any problems that jump out at me. I am not
running ipv6 just simple ipv4. I also have openvpn running but it has
been working fine for months before this odd problem started. Any ideas
or thoughts?
