Hmmm.  Doesn't any of you have room in one of your basements?

A little bit of noise control (sheets of sponge-foam do wonders)
and you have your own impromptu recording studio.

Creating a sound-recording studio is much less investment, and
far more forgiving of minor oversights, than, say, a photographic
darkroom.  And home darkrooms used to be commonplace.
