I heard some podcasters talking about this.  M$ doesn't
have a VOIP client.  So they bought one.  And if we look
at the history of M$, they will probably start supporting
all the features for all clients.  Then with time there
will be new features that don't work with the Linux client.
And then even more features that don't work with Macs.
And finally you'll have to buy a whole new version of
Windows.  It's the old story of embrace, extend and
obsolete.

Incidentally, I hope I'm wrong.  But that's not how I'll
bet.
