I saw my first cassette recorder over a year before they were sold
here.  A friend of mine brought the very first Philips model back from
a trip to Europe.  It was over a year before she could buy blank tapes
here--until then, she had to order them directly from Philips in the
Netherlands. Talk about an early adopter!  I could see right away that
it was going to be the Next Big Thing.  When she had a problem with
it, I had to fix it for her, since Philips did not even have a
presence in the U.S. market, except for Norelco shavers.
