Do you have an NMS, like ZenOSS? <http://www.zenoss.com/>  Aside from
monitoring and alerting most NMSs provide the capacity to track
make/model/serial, installed software, etc...  Your existing NMS
probably provides that.

Why not use your existing groupware system for this?  That is what we
do;  you avoid yet-another-application [which itself has to be
supported] and all that [projects, notes, delegation, etc...] is
standard groupware use-case.
