In the MUG.ORG meeting last night an idea was introduced. One of the descriptions was calling it "unconference". A short list of rules are applied to a group of people gathering with a small (say 25) rooms. Up-front a method is devised to register discussions about topics in the rooms (or open spaces).
Some simple rules that were listed:
1. If you are not enjoying the discussion then go to another discussion (vote by walking out).
2. If you don't see a discussion about something you find interesting then start another discussion (presumably by registering it).
I'd suggest that we set aside some rooms or (my preference) space to try this. Let's try designating an open space during some time-frame. Can we try this in a courtyard?
My design of this idea:
I visualize this as a cocktail party with pre-registered discussion topics. Just draw some lines (sidewalk chalk maybe) out on the courtyard and label them A, B C . . . Then set up a wiki with a table labeled A, B, C and a time grid.

What would you like the panel to be entitled?

Me and Jill Baskin (more might want to join in) would like to do a talk on "Free Geek" and responsible computer recycling. May or may not be the official title but I know I'd like to do a talk on that, a few others from the MCFG (motor city free geek) group might want to do it with me. Just reserve some time for us, more info to come in the next couple days. Thanks. I might want do another talk by myself as well more to come.
