[mdlug] knoppix does not see the hard disk on a laptop

This indeed seems to be the problem. I popped in a SuSE install disk and it detected the hard drive as Hitachi-HTS54328 (75 GB). It looks like the problem with Knoppix. I will download and try another live distro as Raymond suggested.
