Hey, I hear ya!  I didn't say it was their only mistake! :)

That said, one can easily argue that to 'control the entry point' to a market you need a compelling product.  Part of that is price, but other parts include quality, features, performance, etc.  The same is true for both the automotive market and (I think) the database market.

Lucky of us there are many OSS database products on the market, and this isn't including hadoop and the other recent buzzy words:

ps. Per the the female rant: A lot of American women demand men provide for them, then cook and clean when they get home from their 10-12 hour day.  What the men earn is "theirs" and what she earns is "hers."  And then the women don't respect the men because they are not "strong" enough.

The simple solution I finally found is not to put up with it.  It's surprising how well that works.  Foreign women, who often don't have these expectations from their society, simply don't need the training.  However, they can acquire the above attitude if left unchecked.

A good quote from a very good female friend is "[my husband] knows when to put me in my place."
