This sounds like a job for Red Hat support! What am I paying for entitlements for otherwise?! I'll let you know how my delegation powers work.

Yes, I spent a week trying all kinds of stuff trying to get
a script like this to work on CentOS 5. Other custom scripts
worked, but for some reason I never could determine the one
to run at shutdown would not. I finally wrote a script named
shutdn that would call my script to unmount cifs shares and
then run shutdown -h now. It saved what's left of my sanity,
but the mystery is still there.
