What is the issue/symptoms?  Moreover, what distro, which version of 
Samba?  What's the specs on the box?  There's not a lot of information

	Without knowing what the exact problems are, it's really hard to say. 
Have you turned on all the logging options for smbd/nmbd?  Is there 
anything interesting showing up in the logs right now?

	Restarting smbd will dump any RAM it is using, barring memory leaks in 
Samba, which there have been more than a few in the past, this usually 
requires a reboot to flush the "lost" RAM back to the OS.  Is your 
script also restarting nmbd as well, that's also been known to not 
release RAM when it is done with it.
