Have you run amixer, or some other mixer program to check you out put 
volume settings?

Does the sound device have more than one output jack, and if so have you 
tried all of them?

I have had good results with SoundBlaster LIVE! though I think it has 
been superseded by Audigy. I think the Audigy uses the same driver, but 
I have no experience with it.
