Then I ran alsaconf and I got this:
intel8x0 nVidia Corporation MCP51 AC97 Audio Controller (rev a2)
Configuring snd-intel8x0 │
│ Do you want to modify /etc/modprobe.d/sound │
│ (and /etc/modprobe.conf if present)?
I said yes.
Then I got this:
OK, sound driver is configured. │
│
│
│ ALSA CONFIGURATOR
│
│
│
│ will prepare the card for playing now.
│
│
│
│ Now I'll run alsasound init script, then I'll
use │
│ amixer to raise the default volumes.
│
│ You can change the volume later via a mixer
│
│ program such as alsamixer or gamix.
finally,
Loading driver...
Setting default volumes...
===============================================================================
Now ALSA is ready to use.
For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer.
Have a lot of fun!
Still no sound. If there is a cheap sound card, or even a good sound card, I
can go but at microcenter, that is known to work well with linux, I'll buy it.
I know my headphones work because I can plug them into my windows laptop and I
can hear sound through them (and not with them off my ears).
