CD listeners,
I am unable to hear the audio tracks of cds, though the cd text appears.
Since the cdtext (a subchannel) is displayed,
I believe the audio (cdtext carrier) is being read over the digital cable.
How do I capture the audio and direct it to the speakers?
Symptom:
When I insert a mp3 disk and mount it (e.g. /media/cdrom/),
mplayer /media/cdrom/song.mp3 plays stereo music to the speakers,
though a mono file must have balance set to unbalanced with kmix,
else the left and right channels apparently cancel each other.
When I insert a cdr (redbook format) audio CD,
KsCD correctly reports the title, author, and song names,
and advances the time counter upon pushing play,
but no sound comes out speakers.
Discoveries:
The DVDburner has no audio socket, only power and data (ide).
The motherboard has no cd audio socket (unequipped option).
Configuration:
OS: centos-release-5.2.el5.centos
