MDLUGers,
Sorry about the glitch. The MDLUG mailing lists are back up and functioning.
Here's what happened:
Bradley Glonka, an MDLUGer from way back in the SGI days, has been the
holder of the mdlug.org domain name for the last eight year of so. Every
year for the last several we have offered to compensate him or take it
off his hands, and he has always declined and just paid it himself.
(Thanks much Bradley!) Until this year. The Domain name was up for
renewal soon and Bradley took us up on our offer.
Since we were changing the ownership of the domain name we decided to
also shop for a cheaper registrar. The implementation of this strategy
was delegated and arrangements made. The plan was too change only the
registrar, leaving the Authoritative Nameserver and IP address
unchanged. With these attributes remaining unchanged the transition
should have been smooth.
This plan fell apart in the implementation. By some miscommunication the
new registrar left the Authoritative Nameserver and IP address at
*their* defaults. And to make matters worse the transfer, arranged last
week, went through on Wednesday, when the delegatee who was the primary
contact was out of town and out of contact.
Eventually contact was made, passwords were passed, and now things seem
to be working as they should. Since the smooth transition thing didn't
happen I went ahead and let the registrar provide Authoritative
Nameservice. Jay you don't need to do that any more, thanks.
So let the punitry and profundity commence! The MDLUG mailing lissts are
back on the air.
