(ExelStor model J9250 "Jupiter 250")

As you may (or may not) know, I have been dealing with hard drives
since 1983 (even repairing several), so I'm pretty picky about HDs.

I bought one of these because it was IDE and cheap (~$45 out-the-door
sale price), then I researched the company. As far as I can
determine, the management are mostly ex-IBM and Western Digital (the
"Jupiter" drive has EXACTLY the same geometry as the WD Caviar 250GB
IDE) -- they have a U.S. R & D facility in MiniScribe's old Longmont
CO digs, and they have done OEM work for Hitachi Storage.

It's reasonably fast (7200 RPM spindle), runs quiet and cool, and
seems well-built. I'm so pleased with it I bought another. That's a
recommendation.
