But much more laborious to back up, or search through. I have a searchable daily
diary going back almost seven years that is with me at all times. I'd have a
rather more difficult time carrying around that many 3x5 cards.
My current Palm Treo is a phone, and has an encrypted database of passwords so
I can look up the less-frequently-used ones. I keep a lot of reference material
on the memory card (again, hard to do with 3x5 cards) and it's an mp3 player as
well as being able to play movies - and surprisingly well, at least as clearly
as a standard-def TV.
Then there's the fact that it's a real computer and I can program on it. I have
a C compiler, and interpreters for Forth and Scheme, though many others are
available. Plus I can log in remotely over SSH (or use my own protocol, Ostiary)
and get things done wherever I am.
With a Bluetooth GPS receiver, it came in really handy when we were on vacation
last week - driving to North Carolina and then Kentucky. Turn-by-turn directions
and everything.
> Added bonus -- nobody wants to steal them.
There is that, and I had it happen once (though I think it probable that it fell
out of my coat first). But the key data's encrypted on it, so it's not a major
problem... and since it's with me at almost all times, the odds of such a theft
are pretty low.
Sincerely,
