I will have to agree. I would hope the LUG's would start to reach out to the regular users and and introduce then to the alternitive.
I do know that small business people would love to know that they can get A LOT of day to day resources for free in linux and open source.
But the thing that needs to happen is that people need to see these groups as collection of Tech Guru's.
If a small business person knows that he/she can a few older computers into router( ipcop ) and there own web server with a few older computers, that is GREAT. They have ownership of there own resources.
Open Office on 5 - 10 station WOW VoIP for the phone system WOW.
Linux Canada for POS. Man we are moving now.
The whole thing is the Linux is here, yet many poeple use Windows and other Microsoft products because it is easy and well known.
It would be cool to do a PC/MAC style commertial to inform small busniss owners that a LINUX infastructure has a low initial investment commentment and yeilds flexablity among other binifits.

LUGs won't die, they'll change. Installfests aren't needed to get the
average Joe on linux anymore, but regardless, nothing beats having a
well-connected network of people in an area to whom questions can be
asked, advice requested, or just jokes told. A random person playing
around with Linux might not need a LUG to do so anymore, but that's
hardly a death sentence.
Besides, people like me like to lurk on mailing lists and whore out
own own LUGs to them (*coughwaynestateuniversitylug*), and just kind
of have "an ear to the ground". I almost treat the mailing list like
an RSS feed that I occasionally can post on.
