Yes, and yes.

I just installed trixbox a week ago and am still playing
with it.  Since I want a non-standard configuration, it's
taking me longer to figure it out.  If you're new to
asterisk, I'd suggest trying out trixbox.  Be sure to
watch the videos about setting it up.  Even though they
are from an earlier version, you still need to do the
same things.
