I saw this gem way back when, on video.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0081766/
If you're willing to approach it with the wide-eyed naivete that it was
made with, it's an enjoyable romp. And it's interesting to see what could
be done, special-effect-wise, without the aid of computers.
(Ironically, the people in it are pretty close to playing themselves. The
"wide-eyed, heart-of-gold special effects guru" really is a wide-eyed,
heart-of-gold special effects guru; the "aspiring actress" really is an
aspiring actress, and the "evil business partner" really is an evil business
partner who in real life stole the rights to the movie from the guy who made
it.)
Anyway, a DVD image of it has been made available (legally) for download
via bittorrent:

It's *slow* to download, sadly (I started it Sunday and I'm hoping it'll
be done when I get home tonight) but y'all might get a kick out of it. I'll
leave my torrent running for a while after I get it so others can benefit.
Sincerely,
Ray Ingles (313) 227-2317
"The combination of threads, remote-procedure-call interfaces, and
heavyweight object-oriented design is especially dangerous... if you
are ever invited onto a project that is supposed to feature all
three, fleeing in terror might well be an appropriate reaction."
