Yes. Just like "I hate all bigots" is a bigotted statement. What can you do?

I'm sure they likely were. Doesn't mean I agree with that assessment. Do you?

Godwin's law is the internet version of plugging your ears with your
fingers and saying "LALALALALALA, I can't hear you!". When something
resembles something else, pointing that resemblence out is valid.
Ignore it at your own peril. Is Stallman as extreme as Osama? Of
course not. I was not even comparing the two. I was simply pointing
out the ridiculousness of any quote *defending* extremism when it's
"right".

There are parallels between F/OSS and communism. If you can't see
that, I suggest that it's because you don't want to. At some point in
American history communism became a dirty word, and it shouldn't be.
Done well, it's a good idea. So's capitalism. Unfortunately, human
beings haven't managed to do either system very well just yet.
