I remember *that* fiasco.  It was CompuServe's too-little-too-late 
answer to Prodigy and AOL (Prodigy itself crashed-and-burned at about 
the same time).

The "new" WOW started out as the cable system "Wide Open West"-- when 
they bought out Ameritech's cable systems and went national, it was no 
longer appropriate.

On-topic:  It's useful to note that WOW offers tiered Internet service 
speeds and pricing, starting out at about 2x dial-up up to about 8 Mbps.
