Gentoo scares a lot of people because the install process is so involved...
You have to, like, read a manual, and follow instructions, and everything.
Yeah, it's a pain, and because it compiles from source the initial install
can be very time consuming on a slower machine, but once you've got your
system completely installed, nothing I've tried is nearly as good as Gentoo
is. It's flexible, stable, easy to maintain, and powerful. And I find the
community support on Gentoo Forums to be second to none. (at least, none
that aren't paid for, and better than a few that are!)
