We did that last weekend. My wife is hooked on MS Office, so we have a Windows machine.
But we got our Dell C521 before they offered XP as an option; it came with Vista. I've
already reported on the list the problems I had with it (sssslllloooowwww, and many games
simply would not work).
Finally, my wife just could not stand how slow Vista was. So, I set up XP. (Fun fact...
you can't install the Windows chipset drivers before you install SP2, or you won't get
USB 2.0. I had to uninstall the USB hardware and let the OS reinstall it. "Windows...
the operating system that makes you delete things to get them to work.") The same machine
is now *much* faster, and plays the games I have just fine, no more than the usual
Windows troubles.
Of course, when I did the reformatting, I left a few gigs open for Linux. Can't wait to
see how it works on that hardware...
Sincerely,
