I've ran into this problem before, but with any application.  With a
Ubuntu install on an AMD64 I was unable to kill anything with "kill"
or "kill -9".  This didn't happen 100% of the time either, it was
random, and quite frustrating.

This may or may not be related to your issues, but I thought I'd let
