FWIW ATT (SBC) tells you not to turn off the modem for the first ten
days it's on the line, to "optimize the transfer speeds". The first
thing they tell you to do if you have trouble is powercycle everything,
the modem, router, computer and anything else connected. I know, it's
their mentality. From time to time I do powercycle my Speedstream modem
and an old IBM gateway connected. I thought it was just my old crabby
hardware but I've heard of other users doing this to solve transfer
problems.
