[mdlug-newbie] Looking for assistance

Hello all,
I stumbled on your site while trying to find Linux drivers for a
Toshiba laptop. Most of the searches show that Toshiba is tricky to load
Linux drivers for audio & network. Your site is local to me (I’m in
Westland) and am interested in going to some meetings (hopefully on a
regular basis (pending work schedule)). I have since returned the Toshiba
laptop (courtesy of Sam’s Club’s easy satisfaction policy). There are
several more questions I have and hopefully your staff/guests might me help
with. I now have an HP laptop that can be used for the “guinea pig” for
training since there is no ‘mission-critical’ data on it.

BTW, when I got this HP laptop, I have been so frustrated getting rid of all
the ‘shovel ware’ that they choke down on us just to get it to boot in a
timely fashion. It has Vista (world’s most pathetic joke) and am still not
pleased. I have used a couple of distros but mostly with Ubuntu 7.04. I
have had years of computer building/repairing but am stuck in a window’s
world so I need to break all my old habits. That is one of the many things I
like about Linux in that when you install the OS
you get just that. The
hard part I have is loading drivers. There is a great wealth of info on the
web but unfortunately; I need to have someone show me due to my old windows
mentality.

Thank you in advance,
Michael Smith (Smitty)
