instead of serious protective equipment. They are still far less to
insure than an automobile.

Well, increased gas prices has, so far, convinced enough people to
buy smaller vehicles, which is at least one of the reasons smaller car
sales are up while larger car/truck sales have been declining in the
past few years.
I've also been seeing more scooters being used, even for short
distance commuting to work. (Similar to the 20 to 25 minute drive I have
at about 35 to 45 minutes each way)
Maybe we'll be seeing more smaller cars and scooters sold as gas
prices continue to rise.
