Kathy Becker of the Stilyagi Air and Pressure Corps reports that
Murrays will
loan out tools like this for free on placing a deposit on the
equipment. I have inquired
further and may pursue this option.

Not needed for my purposes. A running display of grams/sec of
air flow will
suffice.

I'm only mediocre at soldering, but I might go for a kit anyway.
The website lists
my version at $49 plus shipping and handling; main problem is getting the money
to them without dealing with credit cards.
Also, wikipedia reports that the hot wire MAF sensor (which I
have) does not
require sensors for temperature and pressure and does in fact measure
the air mass
flow directly, giving an analog voltage that is proportional to it.
Thanks for the legwork;
Drew.
