Techies,

Sunday, first day of DST, my VCR/DVD (video casette recorder/dvd player)
died (dvd player only).  



Consequently, I am seeking (dis)recommendations for
	repair methods
	replacement
		brand
		model
		features

At this time, the features I think I want include
	cable tuner
	baseband input (e.g. svga)
	record to blank dvd
	record to video casette
	record from video cassette
	record from baseband input



Symptom:
	DVDs load, spin up (apparently trying a variety of speeds), and
	then report "no disc".

So far, I've removed the case, lubed the motors, and cleaned the laser
"eye".  There were no visibly destroyed circuitry components, (e.g. bulging
capaciters, discolored ICs, ...)  Further disassembly is not impossible,
but likely to be time-consuming.
