Not at all. Even though Vim and Emacs have overwhelming mind share in
the free software community, you still have many other editor choices.
This is because Vim and Emacs did not sabotage the ability to use other
editors. The Systemd galaxy does.

Sure others would find it onerous to mknod or whatever to make devices
like we did in 1999, so they should default to a udev solution. But it
should be a udev that doesn't depend on systemd. So far, I can use
systemd's udev on my non-systemd computer, but such abilities keep
disappearing.
