Since I support Linux desktop (well, laptop) users, I tend to use the
bog standard GNOME desktop that comes with RHEL and Fedora, so I can
best replicate their environment.  While I agree that there are parts
that are a bit memory intensive, it's not really anything compared to
most of the commercial apps I have to support, which are usually using
an Electron browser at its core.

It's hard to take you seriously when it appears you're running an X
session as root, and I assume your browser too.  Please tell me you
are wrong.
