Greetings,
I am putting a presentation together for a presentation I am doing
next week, but I'm having trouble with GIMP. This *should* be really
easy, and I've done it in years past, but the latest revisions of GIMP
have me symied. It used to be SO simple....but now I can't seem to do
what should be simplest of tasks with GIMP any more.... :(

I have a map of the State of Michigan with county lines on it. All I
want to do is place small images of colored "balls" in various places to
indicate the locations of Packet Radio Nodes. I have three different
colored balls already made up made up (Red, Green, and Orange) from a
decade ago when I used to be sucessful at using GIMP.

In the past I would have my Michigan map open in one window, then open
the colored ball image in another window. In the ball image window I'd
"Select All", then do a "Copy Slected". This got the ball image into the
paste buffer.

Then I'd go over to the Michigan map and do a "Paste". The ball would
appear on the map. I could then use the "Move" tool to move the ball to
precisely where I wanted it.

PROBLEM NOW IS: The ball never appears on the map!

Can someone kindly give me a step-by-step how to perform this rather
*simple* task please? This old dog apparently needs to be retrained (wry
grin)

    Thanks!
       --- Jay Nugent
