I've noticed that the MUG group has seen a good bump in attendance from their Meetup notices. Do we want to start a meetup group? This would cost $10 a month.

Hi Gibson,
Thank you so much for writing back! It's great to hear from you. I can definitely understand how the price would give you pause, and I agree that we can stand to provide pricing information upfront. If it would help, I'd be happy to extend our April promotional 50% discount to you to help get you started. If you decide to start your group, we'll help you find members. A few days after a new Meetup is started, nearby interested members are sent an announcement inviting them to join it. I wouldn't be surprised if a Linus user group in a densely populated area like Detroit took off quickly.
Meetup also offers a 30-day Risk Free Trial, which means that if you decide that organizing a Meetup isn't a great fit, you can reach out to us anytime within 30 days of starting your group and we'll be happy to refund you in full. You could even reply directly to this message and I could take care of that for you.
Lastly, keep in mind that if you're worried about the cost, organizers often time share the cost among their members, sort of like a restaurant tab. There are a few different ways organizers can collect payments from members, such as member dues, event fees, and voluntary contributions.
Would you like me to go ahead and attach the 50% discount to your account? I'm here to help you in any way that I can, so please feel free to write back with any questions whatsoever, or if there's anything I can do for you.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
Warm regards,
Pam

Hi Pamela. Thank you for the note. I don't want to have to pay to advertise our event.
We are a free event that collects no money. A not for profit.
I had to go through several steps to find the cost of the membership.

Hi Gibson,
It looks like you started a Meetup, but haven't had the chance to launch it just yet.
One of the coolest things about Meetup is that each new group fills a space in the world that people need, but wasn't there before. You have the chance to make a big impact in Detroit.
I'm Pamela, and I'm on the Community Team at Meetup HQ, which exists to support organizers as you start and grow your groups. I've been inspired as I've gathered stories and trends about the awesome things happening all over the world, what works, and what doesn't.
It's been super exciting seeing communities of like-minded people pop up, and I want to do everything I can to share what I've learned, and help make your almost-Meetup a reality, because your neighbors are looking for a group like yours.
If you ask me, I'd say Detroit is ready for Metro Detroit Linux User Group.
Here's your draftLet me know if you have any questions, concerns, fears, anything--I'd love to help.
Warmly,
Pamela
P.S. On a personal note, I want to share that I've met some incredibly amazing people through Meetup, that I most certainly would not have met otherwise.
