Try "telnet server.address 143", does it connect?

It is probable that the proxy settings do not affect IMAP.

Debug the connectivity.


Stop Evolution and run it from gnome-terminal to see if it reports any
issues -

  CAMEL_DEBUG=imapx:io evolution
