Any feedback that we want to provide on MDLUG use of the Penguicon lab? I'm thinking we start off with the basics then build up to more complicated topics. Hands-on with the laptops provided. I understand the laptops will have Debian.

Yes! That is a lot. I saw a fair amount of "Birds of a feather" events. I am looking to nail down 1-2 hour blocks where MDLUG could present a lab to interested parties. Can you let me know what classes you and your members would be interested in working with? -Daniel

Hey Gib,I have never done it before. There are two paths. Easier (public cloud):Getting the attendees running in rackspace for free (public cloud) on a shared server that I spin up on a trial account.https://developer.rackspace.com/ Unknown amount of difficulty, but appears hard (devstack).Getting the attendees to spin up a a vm on their local machine with limited resources. Is there a better set of classes that MDLUG can take on? -Daniel

I think that would be great. We tried to install Openstack on my computer at the last MDLUG.org meeting and failed. Seems this needs some additional effort. I understand that Pivotal is difficult to get running. Would you be interested in spending some time in the MDLUG meeting to work on this?

Gib, I want to investigate a 3 part Pivotal lab at Penguicon. Here are my thoughts: Lab computers would need: Openstack (DevStack)Text editorWeb browser Here is what the classes could look like Friday Pivotal #1 getting started in the cloud with DevStack Saturday Pivotal #2 Cloud analytics Sunday Pivotal #3 Devops
What do you think? -Daniel

If you don't mind, please do. I am working on a bunch of other stuff, and if I could leave the lab to you it would make my life easier. Right now I am putting together the panel on "Build your own router" that Scott requested. I am over 60 hours of programming right now for this track, and most of that was the easy stuff. Now I am getting into stuff that needs work, and Julie keeps coming up with ideas.<g> They are good ideas, mind you, but they take some added effort. Regards,

I have this one from Gib. What do you think? 1/18/2016 18:20:21Containers, Pivotal activity - build an environmentLet's get together and create an environment in the Penquicon lab that uses containers and Pivotal. How hard could this be? Containers and Pivotal are used to quickly establish virtual machine like environments. I propose that we try to make this work in a live build event. We can start in a 50 minute session then continue as we have time through the weekend. Any skill level person is encouraged to help. Bring what you think we may need: laptops, computers, network devices and thumb drives with downloaded software. Should we install OpenStack first? We may have pre-build sessions at http://mdlug.org in the months leading up to the event.TechnologyActivity (attendees participate in a hands-on activity or workshop)More than 1 hour 50 minutes (please explain in the "additional information" section at the end of the form) MorningThis event is intended to be an activity that is extended through the entire weekend. We would have a 50 minute session either Friday night or Saturday morning. The equipment would reside in the lab with participants working when they have time. We would like to have electrical outlets, tables, chairs and any computer equipment that can be spared. Network access to the internet would be a plus but not required. The http://MDLUG.org club can serve as a coordinating option. Regards, --
