It's always safest to make a backup of your Linux partition but Windows 7 will
not necessarily take up the whole disk. It requires two primary partitions: a
small system partition and the main Windows partition. You can re-install
Windows to the existing Windows partition(s) or resize it first with Gparted.
However the new Windows installation *will* mess up GRUB so that Linux won't
boot. So, you will have to re-install GRUB.
